Why AI Needs Quality Thinking Before Prompts

AI is moving quickly into manufacturing, but successful adoption is about more than choosing the right technology or writing better prompts.

Before we ask AI to improve a process, we need to ask whether the process itself is understood, stable, and capable of producing reliable results. We need consistent processes, trustworthy data, disciplined problem solving, and a culture of continual learning.

Sound familiar?

These are not new requirements created by AI. They are the same principles that have been at the heart of Lean and quality thinking for decades.

That is the idea behind my latest article in Quality Magazine, “Why AI Needs Quality Thinking Before Prompts.” The article explores why the quality profession has already developed many of the foundational practices organizations need to get meaningful value from AI.

If we want AI to improve our processes, we first need to make sure we have good processes to improve.
